Cloth Diapering

I started Cloth Diapering when my DD was about 4 months old. (I wish I would have started from day 1)  I made this choice after a lot of research on the best type of diapers, brands, sizes, styles etc.
I decided to start using cloth after my DD kept getting diaper rash I felt so bad for her having a poor little red bottom all the time. After switching to cloth almost full time she very rarely has a rash and it is normally cleared up in a diaper change. Not only this it is a huge money savings I figure I spent around 400 in the first 3-4 months of her life! I have now spent around the same but these diapers will last her till she is out of diapers! I have about 26 diapers right now. I have many different brands (listed below with my reviews).  My favorite diapers are BumGenius 4.0 (Hook and loop). I have never had them leak and seem to fit very well!

There are many different types of diapers Flats, Prefolds, Fitted, All in ones (AIO) and Pockets (which are my favorite)! There is fitted and One Size (OS) (all mine are OS).

My wash routine
I have a GE Profile Harmony washer and dryer. It is a top loader with no agitator (it will hold a lot!)
I put washer on rinse and spin on cold water. Once finished I put in 2 scoops of Rockingreensoap (my new favorite soap) I put it on a hot wash extra rinse cycle. After washing I do 2 more hot rinse spins with extra rinses added to each. The extra rinses have made for no more stinky diapers. In the summer I hang to dry the sun helps remove stains. In the winter I use the dryer.
This wash routine may seem like a lot but it is only a few pushes of the buttons every little bit.

Diaper Sprayer --A Must! :)
     Bumgenius Diaper Sprayer
  • I love it
  • Great pressure
  • Easy to hook up
  • All around great product and a must for the poos
It does take some getting used to learning how to spray it off without making a mess though, but that would be with any sprayer! Once you have done it a few times you figure it out. I bought some gloves and use them just in case any of it does get on me.

Diaper Pail
I just bought a simple foot pedal trashcan at walmart make sure the lid closes tight put pail liner in and it works perfect.
This is the one I have -- Walmart $14.98

Pail liners I Have a few different kinds
Kissaluvs
  • Good liner fits pail great
  • Holds in mess
  • Washes and dries great
Bummis
  • Good liner
  • Fits pail ok
  • No need for pail though since it has a draw string
  • perfect for on vacation
  • little more expensive $21.00 I have the xlarge
  • More difficult to use for home use bc you are always having to untie
