Baby Food Making

Best way to make
Rice, Oats or Barley Cereal.

  • Use a coffee grinder and grind to a powder
  • Boil about a 1/4 cup of water or breast milk *
  • Add 2 tbs powder

*Note: May have to add more water or breast milk to thin down some if too thick.
*Use Brown Rice Short grain
*Rolled Oats (I used Bobs Red Mill)
* Pearled Barley (I used Bobs Red Mill)

Veggies

***Peas***
  • I bought organic frozen peas from local health food store (make sure only ingredient is peas)
  • Steamed them in Cuisinart 8 cup steamer and rice cooker ( I love this Product)
  • *I steamed until tender about 10 mins or so it varies I think
  • Put in blender and blend until smooth
  • Add water as needed to make a very smooth puree
  • After blending use mesh strainer to put peas through to get out any skins that did not puree
  • Put in Ice cube trays and freeze
**I bought BPA Free Ice Cube trays from Bed and Bath about $4.00 each
**After frozen I put in Hefty freezer bags
**when serving DD I serve 2 cubes which is about 2 tbs


***Green Beans***
  • Bought 1lb bag frozen organic green beans **
  • Steamed in Cuisinart Steamer for approx 20 mins or until tender
  • Put in blender
  • Add water to thin out about 1/2 a cup
  • Blend until smooth
  • Put through mesh strainer to remove any strings or other things
  • Freeze in ice cube trays
  • Once frozen remove from trays and put in freezer bags with date

**Make sure only ingredient is Green Beans



***Butternut Squash***
***Accorn Squash***

  • 1 Organic Butternut Squash
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Wash squash and then cut in half long ways
  • Remove seeds
  • Place face down in baking dish (I used a Pyrex 9x12 dish)
  • Put an inch of water in dish ( I always use spring water because that is all I will drink, but that is up to you what you use)
  • Bake for about 1 hour or until outer skin starts looking wrinkled
  • Remove from oven and scrape out the meat
  • Place in blender and blend until smooth
  • Add a bit of water to make it a smooth puree
  • Put in mesh strainer (it seemed kinda stringy to me)
  • Place in ice cube trays and freeze
  • Once frozen put in freezer bags (I use Hefty quart size)


***Pumpkin***

  • 1 Organic Pie Pumpkin
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Wash and then cut in half (I use veggie wash)
  • Remove seeds
  • Place face down in baking dish
  • Put an inch of water in dish (spring water)
  • Bake for about 1 hour or until outer skin looks wrinkled and soft
  • Remove from oven and scrape out the meat
  • Place in blender and blend until smooth
  • Add small amount of water to make it smooth puree
  • Place in ice cube trays and freeze
  • Once frozen put in freezer bags (Hefty Quart bags) 



***Sweet Potatoes***


  • 2-3 Organic Sweet Potatoes
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Wash (I use veggie wash)
  • Coat with unsalted butter
  • Place on cookie sheet
  • Bake for about 50 mins
  • Cut potatoes in half and scoop out meat
  • Place in blender with a little water (just enough water to make to desired consistence)
  • Once smooth place in mesh strainer
  • I then put back in blender with just a bit more water (some may not need to do this step if it is smooth enough already)
  • Put in ice cube trays and freeze
  • Once frozen put in freezer bags with food type and date! (hefty quart size freezer bags)




***Carrots***


  • I didn't start carrots till 8 months because of nitrates
  • Organic Carrots make sure they don't have many little hairs on them this means they have not been in the ground as long so less chance of high amount of nitrates
  • Wash with veggie wash
  • Peel and rinse again
  • Cut into about 1 inch pieces
  • Place in steamer  (Cuisinart Steamer) for about 15 mins or until soft
  • Place in blender and blend until smooth
  • Add water (DO NOT use water that they were steamed in) to achieve desired consistence
  • Place in ice cube trays and freeze

  • Once frozen put in freezer bags with food type and date! (hefty quart size freezer bags)



***Beets***


  • 3 beets stems attached
  • Cut off stems and roots
  • Wash (veggie wash)
  • Peel
  • Cut into chunks
  • Place in steamer
  • Steam for about 30 mins or until soft
  • Place in blender with a bit of water to make correct consistency for your baby
  • Place in Ice cube trays and freeze
  • Once frozen put in freezer bags with food type and date! (hefty quart zer bags)



***Potatoes***
  • Organic white potatoes as many as you want
  • Steam in steamer until soft (around 20 -25 mins)
  • You can eeither place in blender adding breastmilk or water (i used water) or mash them
  • I have made them 2 times the first time I blended this made a super smooth consistancy (be sure to add enough water) But now as baby is older I mash them adding water
  • Place in ice cube trays and freeze them
  • Once frozen place in freezer bags with food type and date! (hefty quart zer bags)




***Broccoli***


I have been using frozen organic fruits and veggies lately since this is off season and I have trouble finding fresh.

1- package frozen broccoli

  •  Steam in steamer for approx 15 mins or until tender
  •  Place in blender 
  •  Add water as needed to achieve consistency needed for your babies needs
  •  Place in ice cube trays and freeze
  •  Once frozen place in freezer bags

Fruit



***Avocado***


  • 1 Organic Avocado
  • Wash with veggie wash
  • Cut in half
  • Scoop out inside (save seed)
  • I only use half of avocado per serving
  • Cut with knife and fork and then mash
  • Add a little water if needed to help smooth out
  • Serve
  • **I have heard avocado does not freeze well I have never tried though



***Peaches***

Can use fresh or frozen peaches
  •  2 bags frozen organic peaches or 5-6 fresh
  • If using fresh Wash with veggie wash
  • Peel
  • Slice into small cubes
  • Place in steamer
  • Steam for about 15 mins
  • Blend until smooth
  • Add water if neccessary (sometimes I have to sometimes I dont)
  • Place in ice cube trays and freeze them
  • Once frozen place in freezer bags with food type and date! (hefty quart zer bags)




***Cherries***

I used frozen pitted organic cherries
Very easy and very yummy!

1-bag frozen cherries (next time I will probably use 2 one didn't go far)

  • Steam for about 15 mins
  • Blend until smooth
  • Adding water as needed for your babies needs

*When I put them in ice cube trays I only feel half full or less on this recipe so they are small cubes when serving i add to another fruit such as apples, pears, peaches, etc. whatever sounds good to you! :)
(I made peach, apple, cherry the other day it was very yummy and dd loved it! )
